Ethereum Developers Meet October 15 as Glamsterdam Upgrade Nears Mainnet
Ethereum developers will hold All Core Devs Consensus call No. 189 on October 15 at 10 a.m. ET, a key milestone in the path toward the Glamsterdam upgrade expected in Q4 2026. The call will cover Glamsterdam’s progress as well as Hegotá, the hard fork expected to follow in 2027.
Glamsterdam Progress Report
Glamsterdam has already activated on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, with developers testing at a 200 million gas limit. The Hoodi testnet is scheduled for October 26, and client releases are expected by October 16 — though timing remains subject to change. No mainnet date has been confirmed yet, with Q4 2026 listed as an unconfirmed target.
The upgrade includes protocol-level proposer-builder separation and block access lists aimed at improving transaction processing and network efficiency. At the most recent execution-layer call, eight EIPs moved to the “Considered for Inclusion” stage, including the PAY opcode and the deactivation of self-destruct.
Looking further ahead, Hegotá is expected in 2027 with censorship-resistance improvements and Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists among its confirmed priorities. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has noted Hegotá will be the last “normal” fork before the focus shifts toward quantum resistance.
ETH Price Under Pressure
The upgrade progress comes at a difficult time for Ethereum’s price. ETH traded near $2,370-$2,437, down about 5% after the hot September CPI report and roughly 6% over the past week.
Exchange data shows growing selling pressure: Ethereum balances on exchanges have risen to 11.90 million ETH, the highest level since September 8, suggesting investors are moving coins to platforms to sell. Spot Ethereum ETFs haven’t helped — they’ve seen ten straight days without a single day of inflows in October, with month-to-date outflows of $720.19 million.
Derivatives data tells a similar story: $51.29 million in ETH liquidations over 24 hours, with 84.4% falling on long positions. Open interest stood at $31.11 billion.
Analysts cite $2,600 and $2,700 as the near-term levels that would signal a recovery. Past upgrade cycles have produced mixed price outcomes, so traders will be watching whether the October 15 call sparks any technical optimism.
