Tether has invested in EFY Finance’s seed funding round to accelerate institutional stablecoin adoption across Latin America, extending its push to make USDT — and its newer USA₮ token — standard infrastructure for regional finance.

EFY Finance provides cross-border payments, digital asset custody and local settlement services across 17 countries. The company serves more than 25,000 active individual and business accounts, operating across 12-plus currencies and payment corridors with wallets, cards, over-the-counter desks and on/off-ramp infrastructure for both USDT and USA₮.

Why Latin America

The region is one of crypto’s most natural markets. Chainalysis figures put Latin American crypto transaction volume at nearly $1.5 trillion between mid-2022 and mid-2025, driven by demand for dollar access in economies battling inflation and capital controls.

“Across Latin America, the US dollar is a lifeline against inflation and capital controls,” said Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino — a concise summary of why stablecoins, rather than volatile cryptocurrencies, are the product finding real traction there.

The regulatory footing

EFY Finance holds a Digital Asset Service Provider licence in El Salvador and maintains an established presence in Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Ecuador. That licensing matters: as stablecoin rules tighten globally, licensed on/off-ramps are becoming the scarcest and most valuable link in the chain.

For Tether, the investment is part of a broader strategy of embedding USDT into regional financial systems rather than competing purely on trading volumes. The stablecoin wars of the next few years will be won in corridors like these — remittances, business payments and savings — not on exchange order books.
