Daily Crypto Market Update: Optimism Leads Gainers as Wormhole Dumps 17%
The crypto market split into clear winners and losers on October 14, with bulls dominating the broader market — 85% of coins gained value over 24 hours — even as the hot US CPI reading weighed on the largest assets.
Top Gainers: Optimism Takes the Crown
Optimism was the biggest gainer among the top 200 cryptocurrencies, jumping 10.60% to around $0.15 and earning the day’s “coin of the day” honors. Basic Attention Token came in second with a 10.21% gain, followed by FTX Token, Onyxcoin, and OriginTrail.
The breadth of the rally was notable: with 85% of tracked coins in the green, the day showed real risk appetite outside the mega-caps, which were busy absorbing the macro shock from the inflation data.
Top Losers: Wormhole Crashes Hard
Not every altcoin joined the party. Wormhole was the worst performer in the top 200, crashing 17.30% in 24 hours. Celestia followed with a 10.24% decline, while Render Token, Non-Playable Coin, and Qubic rounded out the list of the day’s biggest losers.
Bitcoin and Ethereum Stay Under Pressure
The large-caps could not shake the macro headwinds. Bitcoin traded around $81,500, testing the lower end of its recent consolidation range after the September CPI report revived expectations of more Fed rate hikes. Ethereum held near $2,437, down about 5% on the day.
The takeaway: capital is rotating. Traders are hunting opportunity in smaller tokens with idiosyncratic catalysts while the macro picture keeps the heavyweights pinned down.
