Virtune Launches AI Crypto Index ETP Tracking 13 Agent-Economy Assets
A new regulated product is giving European investors a single way to bet on a much larger idea: that artificial intelligence will not just answer questions, but will start buying things, paying for services, and trading with other machines on its own. On November 3, 2026, Virtune, a regulated Swedish digital asset manager, launched the Virtune AI Crypto Index ETP on Nasdaq Stockholm, under the ticker VIRAI, and on Deutsche Börse Xetra, under the ticker VRTI. It is Virtune’s 25th exchange-traded product, and its first trading day was Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The product tracks an index developed with index provider MarketVector, covering 13 crypto assets at launch that are linked to the infrastructure behind the emerging AI agent economy. That phrase sounds abstract, but the underlying claim is concrete. If AI agents are going to act economically, they will need payment rails, places to trade, reliable data, and computing power, and each of those needs is currently served, at least in part, by a blockchain network and its token. Virtune’s product packages those bets together, so an investor does not have to pick a single winner among them.
What is the Virtune AI Crypto Index ETP?
An exchange-traded product, or ETP, is a security that trades on a stock exchange like a share, but tracks an underlying asset or index. In this case, the Virtune AI Crypto Index ETP is physically backed, which means it is backed 100 percent by the underlying crypto assets themselves, rather than by a derivative contract that merely mimics their price. Virtune describes the structure as transparent, with institutional-grade security, and that backing matters to investors who want exposure without holding private keys, managing wallets, or using a crypto exchange directly.
The product trades in Swedish kronor on Nasdaq Stockholm and in euros on Deutsche Börse Xetra, with the ISIN SE0030936779 and the Bloomberg ticker VIRAI. Its annual management fee is 1.49 percent, which is the cost investors pay for the packaging, custody, index tracking, and exchange listing. That fee is not trivial, especially compared with holding tokens directly, but it is the price of regulated, exchange-traded access. Virtune as a whole manages 25 ETPs with a total of 330 million US dollars in assets under management, according to the launch announcement, and says it is trusted by more than 160,000 investors, with listings across Stockholm, Helsinki, Warsaw, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Paris.
The 13 assets and the four areas of AI agent economy crypto
At launch, the index divides its 13 assets into four areas, each representing a different layer of the agent economy. Payment networks come first, with Ethereum, Solana, Stellar, XRP, and Sui. These are the rails on which an agent could plausibly pay another agent, settle a purchase, or move value across borders without waiting for a traditional banking window. Their inclusion is a bet that machine-to-machine payments will still need general-purpose, liquid blockchains, not only specialised payment tokens.
Trading and liquidity form the second area, with Hyperliquid, Uniswap, and Jupiter. Agents that hold, swap, or rebalance assets will need markets that are deep, fast, and available around the clock, and decentralised exchanges and perpetual-trading platforms are currently the closest crypto-native answer. Infrastructure and data make up the third area, with NEAR Protocol, Chainlink, and Pyth Network. Agents need to communicate, access reliable information, and verify prices and events from the outside world, and oracle and data networks aim to supply that layer. Computing power completes the set, with Bittensor and Render, reflecting the simple fact that AI models must run somewhere, and decentralised compute marketplaces offer an alternative to renting capacity from a handful of large cloud providers.
Why equal weighting and quarterly rebalancing matter
The index is equally weighted and rebalanced quarterly, which means each of the 13 assets starts with roughly the same weight, about one thirteenth of the index, and those weights are reset every three months. Composition can also be adjusted over time as the technology evolves. Equal weighting is a deliberate choice, and it has clear trade-offs. It prevents a single large asset, such as Ethereum, from dominating the product and turning an AI-themed basket into a disguised Ethereum fund. It also gives smaller, more specialised assets a meaningful voice in performance, for better and for worse.
Quarterly rebalancing serves a related purpose. Without it, winners would grow as a share of the basket and losers would shrink, until the product no longer reflected its original idea. Rebalancing forces a regular discipline: trim what has run ahead, top up what has lagged, and reconsider whether each constituent still belongs. For a fast-moving theme such as AI agents, that discipline is especially important, because today’s promising infrastructure token can become tomorrow’s abandoned project, and a new network can emerge in a single product cycle. Investors should still understand that rebalancing does not remove risk. It manages concentration, but it cannot protect a basket whose entire theme falls out of favour.
Why an AI agent economy index matters now
Virtune’s chief executive, Christopher Kock, framed the launch as a bet on the next megatrend after stablecoins and tokenisation. In the company’s words, AI is evolving from primarily answering questions and generating content to autonomously performing tasks, purchasing services, and executing transactions, including buying computing power, paying for information, and interacting economically with other AI agents without human approval for every individual transaction. If that vision is even partly right, the infrastructure underneath it becomes economically valuable in a way that is different from a chatbot subscription or a cloud contract.
That is also why a basket, rather than a single token, makes sense as a first step for many investors. Nobody yet knows which payment network agents will prefer, which data oracle they will trust, or whether decentralised compute can compete on price and reliability with centralised providers. A diversified product spreads that uncertainty across 13 answers instead of staking everything on one. It also creates a benchmark: as the agent economy develops, the performance and composition of this index will offer a public, regulated window into which layers are actually gaining traction, and which are merely being talked about.
Risks, limits, and who this product is for
None of that makes the product safe. Virtune itself warns that cryptocurrency investments are associated with high risk, that it does not provide investment advice, that securities may increase or decrease in value, and that there is no guarantee investors will recover their capital. Those warnings apply with extra force to a theme product. AI agent economy crypto is a narrative layered on top of an already volatile asset class, and narratives can inflate quickly and deflate just as fast. A token can be genuinely useful infrastructure and still lose most of its value if expectations run ahead of adoption, if a competitor wins, or if regulation changes.
There are also practical limits to what an ETP can capture. An index of listed tokens cannot capture private AI companies, unlisted infrastructure projects, or the value that accrues to traditional cloud and chip companies from the same trend. Equally, a quarterly rebalance is slow by crypto standards, and a 1.49 percent annual fee compounds over time. The product is therefore best understood as a regulated, diversified way to gain exposure to one specific thesis, not as a proxy for artificial intelligence as a whole, and not as a substitute for research into each constituent. Investors who cannot tolerate sharp drawdowns, or who need to understand exactly what they own, should treat that distinction as decisive.
Availability also matters for European investors weighing this launch against other routes. Trading on Nasdaq Stockholm and Deutsche Börse Xetra puts the product inside familiar brokerage accounts and settlement systems, which can matter for tax reporting, custody, and compliance in ways that a direct crypto exchange account does not always simplify. That convenience is part of what the fee buys, alongside diversification and index maintenance, and it should be weighed honestly against the cost of holding the same assets directly for investors comfortable doing so.
What does physically backed mean for this ETP?
It means the product is backed 100 percent by the underlying crypto assets themselves, rather than by a derivative that tracks their price. Virtune describes the structure as transparent, with institutional-grade security, although backing does not remove market risk.
Which assets does the Virtune AI Crypto Index ETP hold at launch?
It holds 13 assets: Ethereum, Solana, Stellar, XRP, and Sui for payment networks; Hyperliquid, Uniswap, and Jupiter for trading and liquidity; NEAR Protocol, Chainlink, and Pyth Network for infrastructure and data; and Bittensor and Render for computing power.
How is the index weighted and rebalanced?
The index is equally weighted, so each asset starts with roughly one thirteenth of the basket, and it is rebalanced quarterly. Weights are reset at each rebalance, and composition can be adjusted over time as the technology evolves.
Where does the product trade, and what does it cost?
It trades on Nasdaq Stockholm under the ticker VIRAI in Swedish kronor, and on Deutsche Börse Xetra under the ticker VRTI in euros. Its annual management fee is 1.49 percent, and its first trading day was Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
